Race2Dinner was inspired in part by This book.
Race2Dinner is a social justice initiative founded by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao in 2019 to confront white women about their roles in upholding systemic racism. It brings together small groups of white women for candid, often uncomfortable conversations led by Jackson and Rao, aiming to push beyond surface-level discussions and into personal accountability.
The dinners, which have cost between $2,500 and $5,000, are designed to spark deep self-reflection and challenge participants to acknowledge and change their complicity in racism. The initiative has since expanded to include virtual sessions, workshops, and a book titled White Women.
While praised for its bold and direct approach, Race2Dinner has also faced criticism for its pricing and confrontational style. Still, it has been influential in advancing difficult conversations about race and privilege.
In 2020 during the hight of the pandemic, Aundroma projects in cooperation with Rolling Fork Productions, began working with Saira and Regina to Develop an off broadway theater play based on the experience with the Race2Dinner project. Plans are currently in the works to begin workshops in the fall.
